final major project
my final major project is an exploration of transformation and growth through grotesque textile sculpture. this piece is a manifestation of my life and practice as a queer and neurodivergent artist.
for this project, i have used entirely second-hand materials, in order to remain as sustainable as possible while also incorporating materials into my theme of transformation and rebirth.
the core structure is made from a "shell" of wire and plaster of paris. this shell is outlined by a layer of knit fabric, entirely dipped in liquid latex. the knit fabric was created on a machine using a structured and repeated pattern, to portray a contained and organized structure. this reflects where i've come from as a restricted and limited form. this form is outwardly disturbed by a progression of freeform knit and crotchet, to portray a disturbance of order in the body. this represents moving on and expanding beyond the confines of flesh
